Inclusion at Corpus Christi

At Corpus Christi, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every child—regardless of background, starting point, ability or need—deserves to experience a curriculum that values them, reflects them and enables them to succeed. Across all subjects, from the early years through to Year 6, our curriculum is deliberately designed to offer multiple entry points, diverse representation, adaptive progression and meaningful opportunities for all pupils to participate, achieve and express themselves. Through thoughtfully sequenced learning, a wide cultural lens and carefully structured skill progression, we ensure that every child feels seen, supported and able to flourish as a unique and valued member of our school community.

How Our Curriculum Demonstrates Inclusion at Corpus Christi

1.We represent and celebrate a wide range of cultures, identities and stori

Acrosses the Music curriculum, pupils explore styles from South African Afropop, reggae, jazz, Motown, classical, pop, gospel and world music, ensuring all children see their heritage and identity reflected in what they learn.

This diversity supports inclusion for pupils from different cultural backgrounds by affirming their identity and widening every child’s understanding of the world.

2. We provide clear, structured progression so every child can succeed

All subjects—including Music, History, Art, Computing and Geography—use step‑by‑step, sequenced progression that builds knowledge and skills gradually from EYFS to Year 6, allowing all pupils (including SEND learners) to access learning and move forward at their own pace.

  • Music progression develops from pulse and simple rhythms in EYFS to improvisation, notation reading and composition in KS2.
  • Art progression moves from exploration and mark‑making in EYFS to sophisticated drawing, painting, sculpting and evaluating by Year 6.

This ensures learning is accessible, transparent, predictable and adaptive for all children.

3. We promote equality, empathy and respect across subjects

Your History curriculum explicitly teaches themes of justice, fairness, community, power, migration, diversity and identity through case studies spanning different eras and cultures (Windrush, Ancient Greece, civil rights, explorers, Victorian reformers, global journeys).

These topics enable pupils to explore discrimination, fairness, democracy and respect—key components of an inclusive ethos.

4. We embed inclusive practice through active participation in the arts

All children sing, play, improvise, compose, experiment with instruments and perform regularly, regardless of ability or background.

  • EYFS children explore music through movement and play, ensuring early access for all.
  • KS1 pupils perform with actions and simple instrumental parts.
  • KS2 pupils rehearse, lead, collaborate and perform increasingly complex music.

This ensures full participation, not just for the most confident musicians.

5. We use a wide range of mediums, styles and approaches so every learner can shine

The Art curriculum includes drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, craft, design, photography and mixed‑media work.

This varied offer ensures that pupils with different strengths, sensory needs or learning styles can find their place in the subject.

6. We encourage personal expression and identity

In Year 6 Music, pupils explore “Music and Me”, a unit designed to help them create work inspired by their identity and by women in the music industry—promoting representation, confidence and self‑expression.

This allows pupils to see themselves as artists and creators, reinforcing inclusion through belonging.

7. We ensure every child can access and understand the world through Geography

The Geography curriculum introduces children to a wide range of countries, landscapes, cultures and communities—from The Gambia, to Europe, South America, coasts, rivers, mountains and global climates.

This broadens horizons and builds an inclusive worldview rooted in respect for others.
