Science

At Corpus Christi, our science curriculum nurtures curiosity, careful observation and awe for creation. From asking simple questions in Key Stage 1 to planning fair tests and evaluating evidence in Upper Key Stage 2, pupils build secure scientific knowledge and the “working scientifically” skills to think like scientists.

Each year revisits and deepens the big ideas—plants; animals including humans; materials and their properties; forces, light, sound and electricity; living things and their habitats; Earth and Space; evolution and inheritance—so that understanding grows step‑by‑step and learning sticks. Practical enquiry, purposeful talk, and clear subject vocabulary anchor every unit, ensuring all children know more, can do more and remember more in science.

Curriculum progression matrix (by topic and year)

How to read this: Each cell shows the number of weeks a topic is taught in that year. Where you see a ✓ and a number, the topic is taught and revisited—part of our spiral approach to progression.

What each year group learns across the year

These simple timelines show the sequence of units across the 39‑week year. Colours match the topic key underneath. (Weeks are approximate and allow for local enrichment and assessment windows.)
