Working Scientifically

How Our Children Work Scientifically

At Corpus Christi, children learn to think and behave like real scientists. From Early Years upward, they ask questions about the world around them, explore through hands‑on investigation, observe closely using age‑appropriate equipment, and test their ideas through practical enquiry. As they move through school, they learn to take accurate measurements, record their findings using tables, charts and graphs, and explain what their evidence shows. By Year 6, pupils confidently plan their own investigations, evaluate the reliability of their results, and communicate their conclusions using precise scientific language. This step‑by‑step development ensures all children become curious, reflective and skilled young scientists.

Steps in the Scientific Process

At Corpus Christi, children build their scientific skills through six progressive strands that grow year by year. They begin by asking simple questions and observing the world closely, then move on to testing ideas, measuring accurately, and recording results in different ways. As they progress through school, pupils learn to spot patterns, explain their findings using evidence, and communicate their ideas using correct scientific vocabulary. By Year 6, children can plan and carry out their own investigations with increasing independence, using all six strands to think and work like real scientists.
